What NetApp Will Preview at Gartner DC Conference

There aren’t that many IT conferences held in December, and for a lot of good reasons. But if you’re planning on attending only one this month, Gartner’s Data Center, Infrastructure & Operations Management Conference 2016 in Las Vegas is the one. It’s being staged Dec. 5 through Dec. 8 at The Venetian.

Naturally, the emphasis is all about data: how to store, clean, protect, access, massage, analyze, transport and otherwise spoil it silly so that it can bear fruit for enterprises.

Because data is, in fact, the currency of the new digital economy, NetApp will be showing some of its new solid-state storage ware and exhibiting its expertise, portfolio, and partnerships at the show, along with myriad other companies, of course. The company will focus on—and discuss from the stage—strategies for maximizing the value of data in the hybrid cloud era.

In booth 322 of the Solution Showcase, NetApp will share the latest advancements in its portfolio of flash, cloud, and next-generation data center solutions.

Featured is a new model in the company’s all-flash portfolio, which helps customers simplify and modernize their infrastructure. NetApp has been recognized as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Solid-State Arrays.

What to Expect at Gartner Conference

Key topics of the showcase include:

–The new NetApp All Flash FAS (AFF) A200, an entry-level all-flash array that delivers enterprise-grade flash performance at a very attractive price point. The new system makes it easy for midsize businesses to move to all-flash, and it features a compact 2U chassis design with an internal solid-state drive (SSD) shelf.

–The latest version of NetApp SolidFire Element OS storage software, which lets customers respond to business demands quickly with dynamic adjustments. This centerpiece of the next-generation data center lets users accommodate mixed workloads on a single storage system, adding capacity and performance with seamless granularity.

–NetApp solutions for DevOps teams who want to simplify application deployment with Docker and container technologies.

–FlexPod converged infrastructure solutions, which speed deployment of both infrastructure and applications and deliver superior performance. Users can slash administration time and total cost of ownership (TCO) by up to 50% with FlexPod prevalidated solutions from NetApp and Cisco.

Company Has Made a Rebound in 2016

In the last year-and-a-half under new CEO George Kurian, NetApp—which had been struggling in the NAS (network-attached storage) market for a few years—has entered the storage-area network (SAN) market with a bang, joined the all-flash storage generation and has continued to improve one of the industry’s highest-regarded data management systems (ONTAP). It also acquired a hot new-gen, solid-state storage company in SolidFire, and now it has two promising solid-state storage product lines with very different user bases.

The total revenue numbers have stopped their skid and leveled off, and NetApp is suddenly No. 2 in the all-flash SAN market, a segment that the company had not penetrated previously. NetApp now has a $750 million-per-year business where it had none two years ago. Analysts now expect the 24-year-old company to rebound completely by next year—if not this year—back into growth mode.
